Bernese Oberland Tour

Hut to Peak to Hut.

Sample itinerary:

We rendezvous in Grindelwald at the Guide's Bureau and after making reservations for the evening's hut, we go up on the train to Jungfraujoch, making the short crossing to the Monchjoch Hut.
The famous Monch (4099m) is our first day's target. After completing our climb, we have time to relax and prepare for our journey into the heart of the Oberland.

Our Odyssey starts with a traverse of the glacier and a climb of the Fiescherhorn (4046m). Descending to the Fieschersattel, we traverse to the Finsteraarhorn Hut for the night. Next day we climb the Finsteraarhorn and return to the same hut.

Continuing our great traverse, we cross the Gemluck col, and traverse to the Oberaarhorn Hut. Given the right timing and conditions, it's only a mere hop to the summit of the Oberaarhorn (3700m) situated behind the hut. Back down for some great hospitality in this hut.

Straightforward glacier travel is the task for the next day, on down to the Lauteraar Hut.
Doing a complete U-turn in direction we traverse the glacier to Lauteraarsattel. Climbing up to this rocky col in one steep pitch, we emerge on the plateau leading across and down to the Gleckstein Hut.
We walk back to Grindelwald and soon we're celebrating in the bar, café or restaurant, savouring our successful trip, under the watchful eye of the Eiger North Face. Another time, maybe? We're happy with what we've done, and should be!

The alpine season of June to September gives a perfect vacation.

Hut to peak to hut. Not a car to be seen. Just the splendid isolation of this great range. 8 days (7 days plus additional day allowed for bad weather). A major traverse through the Oberland climbing some of the finest mountains in the range. The huts are superb, hospitality, good food and comfort being the trademark of the Swiss huts.
