The Matterhorn
The world's most sought-after summit.
Arguably the best-known mountain in the World.
We acclimatise in Chamonix, where cable car access to routes and peaks ensure minimum walking and maximum climbing, to get ready for our ascent of this wonderful peak.
We then move over to our final goal - the Hornli Ridge on the Matterhorn.
Preparations for the climb over we take the Schwarzsee cable car and go up to the hut below this majestic peak.
Early next morning we are on the route. Expect many other parties juggling for position and some brisk climbing will be needed. Passing the Solvay (bivouac) Hut we start the final section to the summit.
We reach the Swiss summit and celebrate with photos and food/drinks before starting the long descent. This can be more difficult and tiring than the ascent, but soon we are passing the bivouac hut again and on down to the Hornli Hut.
If all has gone well, we will have ample time to descend to the Schwarzsee station before the final lift down to Zermatt has gone, otherwise a second night in the Hornli Hut is needed.
